At Apex Rugby Academy we deliver fun and engaging rugby camps during the school holidays. We believe it is our responsibility to provide young rugby players the opportunity to take their performance to the next level.

This year our Aberdeen October Rugby Camp will be held at Woodend Playing Fields, Banchory (Home of Deeside Rugby Club) from Monday 18th - Wednesday 20th October 2021 (9:30am - 4:30pm)

QUALITY COACHING
 

At Apex Rugby Academy Camps, we believe for our players to fully express themselves and develop, we must provide the best coaches possible to guide the players on their individual journeys. Therefore, all our coaches must not only be able to demonstrate and coach effectively, but they must also be able to create a safe, fun and inclusive learning environment.

 

Our coaching team features highly experienced and qualified Rugby Coaches, PE Teachers, Strength & Conditioning Coaches, Sports Psychologist (Clients at Tokyo Olympic Games), Ex - Scottish Rugby Performance Analysts and players who have represented Caledonia, Glasgow Warriors, Wales & Scotland at various age grades.

 

Our coaches are dedicated to share the latest rugby techniques, skills and knowledge from the modern game. The coaches will tailor each session to the needs of each individual player to ensure they maximise their potential.  Click here to meet our coaches.

EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS
 

The grassroots game is in danger of producing 'passive players' who are not required to think about their actions due to coaches adopting a 'lecturer style' approach. There is a lack of education and awareness in the grassroots game of how to improve performance and personal skills out with a training context, particularly in the youth game.  

We have designed interactive & informative workshops to educate players into making good lifestyle habits that promote their personal health and well-being which will benefit their performance and personal development.

 

Players will learn about Nutrition, Lifestyle Habits, Injury Prevention, Recovery, Leadership Qualities & Sport Psychology. 

VIDEO ANALYSIS
 

At Apex Rugby Academy we believe video analysis is an essential tool to each player's development. During coaching sessions, players will be able to receive instant feedback with our video analysis software and equipment which is the same used in the professional game. 

 Each day the players will be able to review their performance in our 'Video Analysis Team Meetings'.  Players can develop their self-evaluation skills, which is an important skill to improve both as a player and individual for wider life.

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT DIARY
 

We want each player to leave our camps as a better individual and better rugby player. Having an awareness of personal growth is vital to be successful. Therefore, each player will receive a 'Player Development Diary' where they can write down their personal goals, and track their strengths & areas for development. Players will also use their diary during our 'Educational Workshops'.

 

At the end of the week players will be able to access their diary on our online learning platform so that throughout the season they can refer back and monitor their specific goals and targets.

INDIVIDUAL SKILLS SESSIONS
 

It is rare these days that players are able to spend quality time improving their individual skills as most training sessions are team based drills and games. We will provide players the opportunity to spend valuable time to develop their skill set relevant to their preferred playing position. 

Players will receive expert tips and advice from our coaches who have played both regional and national age grade rugby. For example there will be: Scrum Half Passing, 9 & 10 Combinations, Jackaling (turnover) Technique, Kicking, Rucking, etc...

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

As players progress up the age grade levels they will be more exposed to Strength & Conditioning. To help them feel more prepared and confident we will deliver a fun, safe and informative 'Introduction to Strength & Conditioning' session.

The session will be led by Strength & Conditioning Coach John Psyllas. 

 

John Psyllas graduated from Robert Gordon University in 2013 with a BSc (Hons) in Sport & Exercise Science before completing his Masters (MSc) in Strength & Conditioning at St Mary's University, Twickenham.

John has previously worked as a Strength & Conditioning Coach with Scottish Hockey, Aberdeen Football Club, Sport Scotland Institute of Sport,  Head of S&C for the Scottish Football Association within the North Region, Robert Gordon University and the Scottish Rugby Union at Men's U17, U18, U20 & Women's U20 & National Team.

 

The exercises will NOT involve any weight lifting but rather fun active games that encourage strength development through movement.

GUEST APPEARANCE - ROSS MCCANN

Apex Rugby Academy is delighted to announce Team GB & Scotland 7s Player Ross McCann will be joining the coaching team at our Aberdeen October Camp

Ross has also previously represented Scotland U20 and has won various honors with Melrose RFC.

Ross has recently just retuned from Tokyo where he was part the Team GB in the 2020 Olympic Games.

We are looking forward to welcoming Ross to this years Aberdeen October Camp.
