WP Nel
WP Nel, is a former professional rugby player best known for representing Edinburgh Rugby and Scotland. Playing as a tighthead prop, he quickly became a key member of the national team due to his strength in the scrum, work ethic, and consistency. During his international career, he earned 61 caps and represented Scotland at three Rugby World Cups, in 2015, 2019, and 2023. His experience and leadership made him one of Scotland's most dependable forwards over nearly a decade.
At club level, Nel spent 12 seasons with Edinburgh Rugby and became only the third player in the club's history to reach 200 appearances. In 2024, he announced his retirement from professional rugby, ending an outstanding career that had a significant impact on both Edinburgh Rugby and Scottish rugby as a whole.
A respected coach, WP Nel now works with Stirling County and Glenalmond College has a forwards coach.
WP NEL SKILLS CLINICS
We are delighted to announce that former Scotland & Edinburgh player WP Nel is coming up north to Aberdeen to a block of skills clinics for U12-U18 players. I
U12 - U14 Skills Clinic
Fun interactive games and drills that encourage scrum shape and contact work. These sessions are for players playing U12-U14 rugby and are looking to improve their skill set in a fun, engaging and enjoyable environment. There will be an opportunity for a Q&A, pictures and autographs at the end of each clinic.
U15 - U18 Skills Clinic (Performance)
These sessions will have a ‘Performance’ focus particularly on the scrum. Weather you’re a player who plays for their club / school or you’re involved in the regional & national set up these sessions will advance your position-specific and technical work.
Whilst these sessions are for forwards mainly any aspiring scrum halfs are also welcome to attend to enhance their game understanding and how they can play a key role in the success of your team’s set piece.
There will be an opportunity for a Q&A, pictures and autographs at the end of each clinic.
WP NEL COACHING CPD WORKSHOP
After our skills clinics WP will run a coaching CPD workshop for rugby coaches of all levels of experience and age grade.
Throughout the workshop WP will cover a variety of content with a particular focus on scrum and contact as well any others of interest from coaches attending. The workshop is completely FREE to attend for all rugby coaches.
